Laplace man killed by train, leaves mystery behind
PRAIRIEVILLE - Sheriff's investigators identified a man who was hit and killed by a train early Wednesday morning in Ascension Parish.
Lt. Col. Bobby Webre with the sheriff's office said Bontrion Toliver, 24, of Laplace was killed when the train hit him around 3:45 a.m. Webre said Toliver was at the railway crossing on Highway 73 just south of Airline Highway in Prairieville when he was hit.
Investigators said Toliver was from Dallas but had recently moved to Laplace with his family. Deputies said it's not clear why he was in Prairieville, and why there was no vehicle at the scene.
The sheriff's office said their investigation is continuing.
