MARRERO, La. - Authorities said Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputies shot and wounded a suspect who hit one of the deputies with a stolen vehicle in Marrero.

Col. John Fortunato said in a news release that Equan Anderson suffered a gunshot wound to the back and a graze wound to his head.

Fortunato says Deputy Kenneth Guichard and a second officer stopped a car that was reported stolen Monday night.

As the officers approached the car, the driver accelerated forward, hitting Guichard.

Fortunato says Guichard fell onto the hood of the car and hit his head on the windshield, shattering the glass.

He says Guichard and the other deputy fired several shot into the car.

Guichard was treated for a cut over his left eye.

Anderson was booked with first-degree attempted murder of a police officer and several other charges.
