BATON ROUGE- Investigators have determined that a fire at a vacant house in the 1900 block of Maryland Street was caused by arson.

Firefighters say they responded to the scene just after 12 a.m. Monday, and they had it under control within 30 minutes of their arrival. Most of the building received heavy smoke damage.

The house was unoccupied at the time of the fire. After an initial investigation, the fire was determined to be the result of arson.

Officials are asking anyone with information on the fire to call BRFD Arson Investigators at 225-354-1419.
