Inmate dead, others hurt in Miss. prison fights
WOODVILLE, Miss. - A prison official says that one inmate died and several others were injured in fights at a prison in southwestern Mississippi.
A spokesman for the Wilkinson County Correctional facility says one inmate died after several fights broke out Saturday morning at the prison. The fights were under control around noon on Saturday.
Nine inmates were taken to area hospitals for injuries. There are no reports of injuries to the prison staff.
The facility did remain on lockdown while officials investigate the incident.
Corrections Corporation of America runs the 1,000-bed facility that houses only male inmates.
