Human remains found in St. Gabriel identified
PLAQUEMINE- The human remains discovered along the levee bank in St. Gabriel last week are those of a 38-year-old woman who jumped off the Mississippi River Bridge in Baton Rouge in February.
Iberville Parish Sheriff Brett Stassi said Thursday that the LSU FACES Lab confirmed that the woman was Marlena David Kauffman of Grosse Tete. Stassi says the woman jumped from the bridge Feb. 7.
The sheriff's office launched an investigation after a fisherman walking along the levee discovered the bones near the intersections of La. 74 and La. 75 in St. Gabriel.
Stassi said investigators believe the remains were washed ashore by the Mississippi River and not dumped at the site.
