House fire kills Opelousas man, injures 2 first responders
OPELOUSAS - Authorities say 54-year-old man has died in a house fire near Opelousas.
State Fire Marshal investigators are still looking into the cause.
Firefighters responded to the fire Thursday night.
Officials say the body of Curtis Iles was found in the hallway outside of his bedroom, in the rear of the home.
Chief Ray Mendenhall says two firefighters from St. Landry Parish Fire Department District 3 sustained injuries from the hot, heavy smoke. Both were able to walk away.
While the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, investigators have established that the origin of the fire was in Iles' bedroom.
