NEW ORLEANS - A citizens group wants to turn a house flooded by Hurricane Katrina into a memorial.

Levees.org founder Sandy Rosenthal says it may be the nearest house still remaining by one of the three levee breaches that filled 80 percent of New Orleans with water after the storm in August 2005.

Eleven years later, the one-story brick house is still vacant, an open hole in one back wall and a tarp-covered hole in the roof.

Rosenthal says she wants the exterior to look as it did just after the city was pumped dry, with a re-creation of a moldy, flood-upturned living room visible through the front windows.

She said the City Planning Commission is scheduled to take up her request for a permit on Tuesday.
