Group: Lesbian honors student may wear tux to prom
NEW ORLEANS- A national advocacy group says a lesbian honors student in north Louisiana has been told she may wear a tuxedo to her prom, after all.
Seventeen-year-old Claudetteia Love said last week that she would not go to the prom because the principal said she had to wear a dress.
The National Center for Lesbian Rights says the principal and school board president told Love on Tuesday that she may wear a tux to the prom April 24.
Carroll High Principal Patrick Taylor and Monroe City School Board President Rodney McFarland could not immediately be reached for comment.
Last week, Taylor says the earlier decision was part of the school's dress code and not anything personal.
McFarland had said Taylor's stance was not backed up by board policy.
