Gonzales recall hits magic number
GONZALES- Organizers of a petition to recall two councilmen have reached the magic number they think will trigger a recall vote against Gary Lacombe and Timothy Vessel.
The Save Gonzales Campaign used the past four months to collect more than 2,145 signatures to recall the two councilmen.
"Five days a week on Saturdays they just worked, we have a good group of people that love Gonzales, they want Gonzales to get back to the place that it was, and they're working hard and accomplishing it, we're getting to where we want to be," said Chuck Leblanc, the chairperson for the recall.
The group hopes to collect additional signatures over the next two weeks to create a buffer in case some names are thrown out.
"We're going through the names with a fine toothed comb, we want to make sure that they are happy with what they see, the more you have, if we have to kick some out, we'll still be good too," said Neal Bourque.
Gary Lacombe did not return a phone call and Timothy Vessel hung up when asked for a comment.
The campaign hopes to get more signatures from the Mayor, the Chief of Police and two other councilmen next week.
