Girl dies after St. Tammany Parish crash involving 14-year-old driver
PEARL RIVER, La. (AP) — A 16-year-old Louisiana girl has died from injuries she sustained when a 14-year-old boy driving a pickup truck crashed into a locked gate and pushed it into her, according to authorities.
The crash happened around 4 p.m. Monday near Pearl River, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Tuesday.
Two 16-year-old girls were behind the gate on a private road with an all-terrain vehicle when the teenage driver crashed into the gate, pushing it into the ATV and the two girls, investigators said.
One of the girls was seated on the ATV and was hospitalized with minor injuries, according to the statement. The other girl, who was standing beside the ATV, suffered critical injuries and later died in a hospital, deputies said.
None of the teenagers involved were identified and it was not immediately clear whether the driver had been charged with a crime.
The agency was continuing to investigate.
