George Zimmerman not seriously hurt after shooting
LAKE MARY, FL - George Zimmerman, the former neighborhood watch volunteer acquitted two years ago of fatally shooting an unarmed black teenager, has escaped serious injury in his latest involvement with gunfire.
Zimmerman today was sprayed with glass from his car windshield and other debris when someone fired a gun at his head. Zimmerman's attorney, Don West, said the bullet missed his client.
West says Zimmerman was released from a hospital. His client, West says, thinks he may know who is responsible for the shooting and is cooperating with authorities.
The Lake Mary Police Department said in a Twitter post that officers had responded to a shooting involving Zimmerman. The tweet provided no other details.
Zimmerman was acquitted in 2013 of fatally shooting Trayvon Martin, in a case that sparked protests and national debate about race relations. The Justice Department later announced it was not bringing a civil rights case against Zimmerman.
He has since had several brushes with the law.
