BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Louisiana sports fans who want to compete for cash prizes in online fantasy sports games will need the support of their neighbors in next week's election.

Voters will decide on a parish-by-parish basis whether to legalize cash-league fantasy sports contests through sites such as DraftKings and FanDuel. The companies have poured $1 million into pushing passage of the measure. Louisiana is one of nine states that don't allow online fantasy sports betting.

Though the games only will be permitted in parishes where voters authorize it, anybody will be able to log into the fantasy sports sites if they travel to those parishes. Supporters say the games are fun and people should be able to make their own decisions about participating. Opponents are criticizing the ballot item an expansion of gambling.
