Family pets die in Monday evening house fire
BATON ROUGE - A cat and bird died in a fire at a house in Old Jefferson Monday.
Firefighters said they arrived to the home on Commission Avenue and found flames pouring out of openings - windows and doors; smoke was coming from the attic vents. It took almost forty minutes to put the blaze out.
One of the four people who live at the home told firefighters, they were on the patio when they noticed flames and smoke.
Firefighters believed the cat and bird died from the smoke.
The cause is still under investigation.
