BATON ROUGE - Entergy crews say a possible power cut to around 4,500 homes in southeast Baton Rouge may not be necessary as the level of flood water has slowed.

If equipment in the substation floods while it is active, a much larger area would lose power and it would likely take longer to restore, said company spokesman Greg Guilbeau. However, Entergy crews monitored the substation for hours before determining the cut may not be required.

General boundaries of the affected area are Florida Boulevard to the north, Sherwood Forest to the west, Flannery Road to the east and I-12 to the south. The outage will extend along South Harrell’s Ferry Road to Jones Creek Road and up to Millerville Road and back to Flannery.

Entergy will wait as long as possible before cutting the power, Guilbeau said.
