BATON ROUGE - Gov. John Bel Edwards has agreed to exempt veterans from having to pay a state fee to get a concealed carry permit and to let the state agriculture department sell ads for its property.

Those were among the bill signings announced by the governor's office Wednesday.

A five-year concealed carry permit costs $125 and a lifetime permit costs $500, with veterans currently charged half the fee's price tag. Edwards signed a bill to do away with the fees for veterans.

The governor also agreed to let the agriculture department sell sponsorships for its equipment, like the transportation and wildlife and fisheries departments can.

Also signed was a measure aimed at cutting state spending on office leases by steering agencies to state-owned buildings.
