Driver fleeing wreck crashes, kills Denham Springs woman
BATON ROUGE – Police think a woman fleeing the scene of one wreck, struck and killed a Denham Springs woman in a second crash near Florida Blvd. Saturday.
According to Baton Rouge Police, Stephanie Butterfield was driving north on Centerpointe Thruway near Florida Blvd. when she was struck by a 2005 Cadillac CTS.
Police believe the driver of the Cadillac was fleeing the scene of a previous accident on Shay Drive.
Butterfield was transported to a local hospital where she later died from injuries sustained from the crash.
Police said the driver of the Cadillac, Luna Pesina was treated at a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries and later cited for hit and run driving and careless operation.
Investigators suspect that Pesina was possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Baton Rouge Police said the crash remains under investigation.
