Dog with head in jar full of fire ants rescued
DENHAM SPRINGS - Vets and volunteers spent the past week in Denham Springs trying to help a dog who'd been found after wandering for days with her head stuck in a jar full of insects.
The Livingston Parish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals posted pictures of the dog's ordeal and asked for help paying for her recovery.
The SPCA said the dog had been found on the side of Hood Road after she had been dumped days before. They said her face and head were completely infested with thousands of parasites as well as fire ants which were inside the jar.
The group said the dog was stable on Friday but still needed more treatment from the vet to finish removing the last of the ticks and clean her wounds, many of which had been infested with maggots.
People who want to help can donate to pay for the dog's care by clicking here.
