DeRidder's first female mayor sworn in
DERIDDER, La. (AP) - A Louisiana city has sworn in its first female mayor. Misty Clanton, with her family by her side, took her oath of office for mayor of DeRidder earlier this week.
The American Press reports Clanton has served as the city's community service director for the past nine years. She says she has a "strong passion" for the city and is ready to move the community forward.
DeRidder has a population of about 10,000 and is located about 100 miles (160 kilometers) northwest of Lafayette. Clanton says she's grateful for the opportunity to serve as an inspiration to following generations. Amid the new and familiar faces will be returning City Council member Vincent Labue, whose first term began in July 1974.
