Deputies say second lounge shooter could be at large
NEW ROADS - Investigators said they're looking into the possibility a second shooter could have been involved a pair of killings overnight at a New Roads lounge.
Sheriff Bud Torres said in a press conference Wednesday morning that Jamie Croom was wanted for the murders of brother and sister Sinica and Lechelle Williams overnight at the Sugar Shack. WBRZ was there as deputies towed away the victims' car to process it for evidence.
He called Croom the most wanted man in the parish.
"They said they stood over him and was shooting him like I want you to die," Cousin Antoinette Hoffman said.
Deputies said the shooting happened just after midnight when a fight inside the lounge moved out into the parking lot. Investigators said witnesses told them there may have been multiple shooters, and while their forensic investigation is still going on they believe shell casings recovered from the scene came from two different weapons.
"The reports from the scene and from witnesses are saying that there were multiple shooters at the location," Torres said.
According to Torres, Croom is on probation for a gun charge, and they have asked federal authorities for help locating him.
Sinica Williams also has a lengthy rap sheet with arrests for drugs, guns, and attempted murder of a police officer. The sheriff's office said one attempted murder charge against Williams was dropped after the victim stopped cooperating with prosecutors.
As details emerged about the murders, family members were overcome with grief.
