Counterfeit cash scam hits St. Francisville
ST. FRANCISVILLE - Yesterday News 2 looked into a fake money scheme in St. Amant, but it seems that another counterfeit scam has reached West Feliciana Parish.
A week ago, police got a call from the Dollar General in town saying they detected counterfeit money. Investigators say two suspects each bought pre-paid credit cards with counterfeit money and then used the cards to spend $500.
"It could have a devastating affect on the economy," said Detective Bryan Herrin.
Detective Herrin said a similar situation happened in Woodville, Mississippi, the day before. In that case, the suspect is a woman by herself.
Detectives in the two jurisdictions think the suspects are working together to solve the counterfeit cash caper.
On Monday, investigators will send counterfeit cash used in the scam at Dollar General to a lab for fingerprint testing. Detectives do not believe the incident in St. Amant to be related.
If you recognize the suspects, or have any information to help with the case, call the St. Francisville Police Department at (225) 635-4177.
