BATON ROUGE - Frank Arrigo of the Greater Baton Rouge Italian American Association and Chef Larry Warren visited our 4 p.m. broadcast on Friday ahead of Sunday's Columbus Day Festa at the Belle of Baton Rouge Casino and Hotel Atrium.

Arrigo says the event is a chance to celebrate Italian heritage in Baton Rouge. While fun and food are certainly on the agenda, Arrigo pointed out that a significant portion of funds generated during the Oct. 12 event will be going to charitable organizations, including our own Pat Shingleton's Coats for Kids.

Belle of Baton Rouge Chef Warren was sizzling up some green peppers, onions, and Italian sausage that will be one of the many Italian dishes they'll be serving up during the event. There was also much talk of wine, pizza, salads and desserts that bring the taste of Italia straight to the Belle.

In addition to a bevy of gastronomic offerings, Columbus Day Festa attendees can enjoy a range of activities that continue with the Italian theme including a grape stomp by local news media personnel, live Italian dance and music, bocce ball, a St. Joseph's Altar, beginner's Italian language lessons and a "Virtual Tour of Italy". There will even be a chance for people who turn out to the event to trace their own Italian genealogy. Free prizes will be given away throughout the day including special grand prizes.

Admission to the Columbus Day Festa at the Belle of Baton Rouge Casino is free and open to the public. The Sunday, Oct. 12 event kicks off at 11 a.m. and last through the afternoon until 5 p.m.
