Child predator back in custody
CLINTON - Authorities said a convicted child predator who skipped out on his sentencing hearing last week has been taken back into custody in East Feliciana Parish.
Sheriff's deputies said 35-year-old Prentiss Corey Chavers was arrested Wednesday morning and is being booked into the parish jail this afternoon.
Chavers was supposed to go to jail for pleading guilty to charges he had sex with a young boy. The victim's father said the child was 14 when Chavers "preyed" on him and the two started having sex.
Chavers agreed to a plea deal with prosecutors to get a ten-year sentence with all but two years suspended. However, he didn't show up for his sentencing hearing last week, which could render the plea agreement invalid.
