NAPOLEONVILLE - State police say an eight-year-old was killed when he was ejected from the car he was riding in. Two other children were also injured.

The accident happened just before 9:00 p.m. on LA-1 near Howard Ln. in Assumption Parish. Investigators say the car they were riding in ran off the side of the road, hit a culvert and utility pole and overturned.

The 26-year-old driver, Brian Gilton, and his three children were all ejected from the car. The eight-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. Gilton and the two other kids suffered minor to moderate injuries.

According to State Police, no one in the car was buckled-up at the time of the crash.

The wreck is still under investigation, but State Police believe impairment was a factor. They are waiting for the results of a toxicology report at this time.
