DENHAM SPRINGS - Crawfish season usually ends around July, but one Denham Springs seafood market has found a way to sell crawfish in the fall.

Ron's Seafood on South Range Avenue gets live sacks of crawfish flown in from California in September to meet the demand for mud bugs. Owner Ron Martin says the crawfish raised in California taste just as good as the Louisiana ones we've come to love.

"This time of the year they ship California crawfish in. During our Louisiana season we ship some crawfish to California to seed the ponds in California," he said. "We tell them that they're from California, and at first they're a little skeptical and then they try one and they love them."

If you find your mouth watering for a tray of crawfish Ron's seafood will have them ready for you.

"It's pretty satisfying to be able to satisfy other people's hunger when nothing else will do," said Martin. "You know how when nothing else will do and you say I needed that. That's the way crawfish are."

A pound of boiled California crawfish go for around $6 at Ron's Seafood.
