Bollinger delivers 16th fast response cutter to Coast Guard
LOCKPORT - Lockport-based Bollinger Shipyards has delivered a 16th fast response cutter to the U. S. Coast Guard.
The 154-foot patrol craft, the Winslow Griesser, is part of the Coast Guard's Sentinel-class fast response cutter program. The vessel has a flank speed of 28 knots and state-of-the-art command, control, communications and computer technology.
The Coast Guard took delivery Wednesday in Key West, Florida, and is scheduled to commission the vessel in Puerto Rico in March.
The Courier reports each cutter is named for an enlisted Coast Guard hero who distinguished him or herself in the line of duty. Griesser was keeper of the Buffalo, New York, Life-Saving Station and earned the Gold Lifesaving Medal on Feb. 23, 1901, for a dramatic water rescue of a man on Nov. 21, 1900.
