Body scanner leads to 2 contraband drug arrests at prison
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Louisiana prison officials say a new body scanner at the state penitentiary in Angola led to the arrest of two would-be weekend visitors.
One consented to a search Sunday after the body scanner detected what officials called an "odd object" hidden on her body. Investigators said the search led to the discovery of drugs including marijuana, cocaine, and heroin.
Officials said a 21-year-old New Orleans woman was arrested. Another visitor exited a prison building after spotting the scanner. In a Monday news release, officials say a search of her car led to drugs including marijuana, heroin, methamphetamine, and oxycodone.
The 24-year-old New Orleans woman faces multiple charges. The department says all but two of Louisiana's state prison institutions now have body scanners.
