Baldwin man arrested on 18 counts of attempted murder
BATON ROUGE - A 50-year-old Baldwin man has been arrested for multiple counts of attempted murder of a police officer and aggravated criminal damage to property.
Wednesday's arrest was the result of a Louisiana State Police investigation into the shooting that happened last December in Baldwin.
State police say deputies responded to a shooting on Dec. 27 and found 47-year-old Gayneaux Trahan suffering from a gunshot wound. As authorities tended to Trahan, Derrick Bodin allegedly began shooting at 18 law enforcement officers. A St. Mary Parish sheriff's deputy was shot in both legs in the incident.
State police entered the home and found Bodin with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his face. He was released from the hospital Wednesday and arrested.
Trahan died from his injuries. That case remains under investigation.
