BATON ROUGE – Authorities responded to a house fire in the 200 block of South 11th Street Monday morning around 10:40 a.m.

EMS and the Baton Rouge fire department responded to the scene to find fire engulfing the rear of the home. The fire spread to several rooms and portions of the attic before brought under control. Thick smoke could be seen coming from the roof of the house and could be seen from I-110 near Government Street.

There were no reports of injuries or victims, according to BRFD. However, firefighters remained on scene to double check that no victims were in the home. Authorities brought the fire under control around 11: 20 a.m.

The fire department estimates the fire caused about $95,000 worth of damage to the home. Entergy and Red Cross were also on the scene.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and remains under investigation.
