Ascension school board members draw up project wish list

GONZALES- Ascension Parish School Board members have a list of 14 projects - including three new primary schools and a middle school - they hope will be funded by a $120 million bond proposal going before voters on April 9.
The bond proposal, if passed, would be paid for with an existing 15.08-mill property tax.
The new primary schools would relieve crowding at six primary schools on the east side of the parish now using temporary classroom buildings to help serve anywhere from 700 to more than 900 students at each school.
The district's ideal enrollment for a primary school is 600.
A new middle school would help relieve crowding for two middle schools with current enrollments of close to 900.
