DENHAM SPRINGS - The state is planning another roundabout for a highway here and will meet with drivers about the construction.

The roundabout will be installed at the intersection of Juban Road and Buddy Ellis Road. The intersection is south of I-12 and the Juban Crossing shopping development.

State highway engineers will discuss the plans at a meeting on Thursday, November 5th. The meeting will be held at PARDS North Park, 30372 Eden Church Road from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

"This public meeting will allow agencies, local representatives, and the public to review the proposed layout and ask questions of the project teams," the state said in a news release about the project.

A spokesperson said the project was in its infancy and was too early to discuss a construction timetable and cost.

In 2013, a WBRZ.com story reported on why the roundabout design was becoming so popular in South Louisiana.  According to engineers, traffic circles - or roundabouts- can increase traffic capacity by 30 percent to 50 percent compared to traditional intersections and the design feature is also believed to decrease the number of wrecks at an intersection.
