BATON ROUGE - Police arrested a teenager accused of carjacking a hospital employee outside Our Lady of the Lake.

An armed suspect stole the car in the parking lot of Our Lady of the Lake Hospital on Essen Lane around 6:15 p.m. July 9, according to the Baton Rouge Police Department. The vehicle, a 2019 Chevrolet Camaro, was found in the Gardere area two days later, but the carjacker was nowhere to be found.

No one was hurt.

On Wednesday, police announced the arrest of a 15-year-old male suspect in the carjacking. The teen was not immediately identified due to his age.

He was booked into the juvenile detention center on a charge of armed robbery.

Scott Wester, President and CEO of Our Lady of the Lake, released a statement Wednesday evening praising the work of Baton Rouge Police:

“I spoke with Chief Paul this evening and applaud the swift action of Baton Rouge Police, in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, to make an arrest and bring closure to this incident. We appreciate the hard work our law enforcement officers do every day to protect our community. They care about all of our citizens and we always count on their partnership.”

Baton Rouge Police Chief Murphy Paul responded to Wester later Wednesday evening:

"We appreciate our partnership with OLOL and the care and love they provide to the citizens of our Parish. BRPD will continue working hard to meet your expectations in public safety."
