1 killed, 2 injured in US 190 wreck
LACOMBE - State Police said they responded to a two-vehicle crash on US 190, west of Lacombe in St. Tammany Parish, that took the lives of a Slidell woman.
Troopers said the crash happened shortly before 6:30 a.m. as 23-year-old Angela Mangini was driving a Ford Crown Victoria westbound on US 190. For reasons still under investigation, Mangini’s vehicle exited the right side of the roadway.
Investigators say she overcorrected to the left, causing her vehicle to spin counter-clockwise as she traveled into the eastbound lane. At the same time, a pickup truck driven by 48-year-old Anthony Batiste, of Lacombe, was traveling eastbound on US 190.
Troopers said Batiste tried to take evasive action to avoid the crash, but he struck Mangini’s sedan in a “T-Bone” collision. Managing suffered severe injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office.
Batiste and his front seat passenger, 37-year-old Anthony Roberts, were both taken to Slidell Memorial Hospital with moderate to severe injuries. All parties involved in the crash were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the wreck.
