1 dead in Texas college housing complex shooting
HOUSTON - Houston Police say one person is dead and another wounded after a shooting at a Texas Southern University student housing complex.
University spokesman Kendrick Callis said the shooting was reported around 11:30 a.m. Friday at University Courtyard Apartments on the edge of the Houston campus. Callis said the campus was placed on lockdown and classes were canceled for the rest of the day.
Houston Police tweeted early Friday afternoon that a possible suspect had been detained.
Police and emergency vehicles were at the scene, where there had been another shooting near the same housing complex just hours earlier.
The university has about 9,700 students.
