1 dead, 2 injured following head-on crash on I-55 near Hammond
HAMMOND - State Police say a man was killed and two were injured in a head-on crash on I-55 south of I-12 near Hammond Wednesday night.
The crash happened around 6:30 p.m. 24-year-old Eduardo Munoz-lachino, of Tickfaw, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner.
Munoz-lachino was driving a pickup truck southbound when he entered into the median and crossed into the northbound lanes. His truck hit the front of an SUV driven by 63-year-old Walter Shockley, of Springfield, and continued into the northbound lanes of the roadway, colliding head-on with an 18-wheeler driven by 60-year-old John McKeller, of Mobile, Alabama.
Munoz-lachino was not wearing his seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene when Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office arrived. Shockley and McKeller were both wearing seat belts and were treated for minor injuries, according to LSP.
The crash is under investigation and blood samples will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
