State opens 2 mental health clinics for youth

About a half-year after it closed a youth mental hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana's health department has opened two outpatient mental health clinics for children, adolescents and their families in the city. State awards health contract to Blue Cross

The state's Office of Group Benefits has awarded a contract to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana. It's a move the insurer said will add up to 200 jobs in Louisiana. Senator wants La. to reject health care overhaul

A Louisiana lawmaker is attempting to nullify the congressional health care overhaul, if it passes. State Sen. A.G. Crowe, a Republican from Slidell, has proposed a bill that asserts states' rights to refuse the federal mandates proposed in the congressional Democrats' health care legislation. Group returns home from Haiti

A group of doctors and volunteers returned to Louisiana after treating hundreds of patients at an orphanage near Port-Au-Prince, Haiti. On average they treated 100 people a day with injuries, infections, and malnutrition. The Baton Rouge Neuromedical Center Surgical Hospital donated $5,000 in medical supplies for the trip. Tulane, BR General reach agreement for satellite campus

Baton Rouge General has reached an agreement with the Tulane University School of Medicine to create a satellite training campus in Baton Rouge. Jindal picks nominees for public hospital board

Gov. Bobby Jindal has picked four nominees to the governing board for a new $1.2 billion public teaching hospital for New Orleans, the Governor's Office announced Tuesday.
