Zachary bridge to get repairs in late spring

ZACHARY - A bridge which has been shut down for nearly two years has got some residents getting impatient.

The parish said they're on schedule with the process of getting a replacement at the Milldale Road bridge that's over Beaver Creek.

Some residents said it's taking too long.

"We're talking about a simple bridge that cuts off the local people from their community," said Jason Robertson, who says the closure poses a problem for first responders in emergency situations.

"If they make the wrong turn because of the detours and so forth, then it's adding an extra five, maybe ten minutes for the response which could be critical," he said.

The parish sheriff's office said depending on where they are when they get a call, they could be delayed by a few minutes if they are on the wrong side of the bridge.

The cost for the replacement of the bridge is $475,000, but the parish said that is subject to change because of design modifications. The money to pay for the bridge is coming from the Community Development Block Grant.

Construction on the bridge should begin in late spring.
