Woman feeding 30 cats asks for help

LIVINGSTON - When dozens of cats took over a woman's French Settlement home, her friends stepped in to help.

Tracy Gardner says the first time she saw almost 30 cats outside her friend's home, she knew she had to help.

"When I got out of my vehicle, there were cats everywhere, they just swarmed my vehicle looking for food," said Gardner.

Gardner is helping her family friend keep the cats fed, but she needed help getting the cats fixed. After two months of phone calls she finally got help from the Denham Springs Animal Shelter.

"Pet Aid will pick up the cost, and this is for everybody, we ask them to contribute whatever they can afford to do and then we'll pick up the rest for them," said Maurice Durban with the shelter.

Durbin says they're holding a spay and neuter campaign, urging anyone feeding a stray cat to get it fixed before spring. Gardener has gotten ten of the 30 cats fixed. She asks for other people to step up and do the same.

"It's not just for them but also for the neighbors that have these problems where the cats end up," said Gardner.
