Woman evicted from councilman's storage shed
GONZALES - A woman filed a police report claiming Gonzales City Councilman Tim Vessel was stealing utilities from neighbors to power his storage shed where she lived for nearly a year.
In a Gonzales Police report obtained by News 2, Debra Williams gave detectives copies of monthly rent receipts for $550 cash signed by Vessel. She said she contacted police after Vessel evicted her in February.
As Vessel detailed in an eviction letter, she was to move out within five days because, "tenant call the police on landlord, tenant must leave premises."
Williams told investigators Vessel was stealing power, cable and water from neighbors, but the Gonzales Police Department did not find probable cause to charge him.
Fire and building inspectors also met with Vessel. He was cited for numerous code violations including having more than one main building on a lot. The report said, "the storage shed was being used as a house on a lot that a trailer was already on." He was given ten days to clean the property and make necessary repairs.
No one was living in the shed when News 2 went to the location, and Vessel didn't answer our calls.
