Witness: Surveillance video shows truck in air
GONZALES- A day after a tornado ripped through Ascension Parish, more witnesses are backing the claim that a small truck was lifted several feet in the air by the twister.
Surveillance video from a convenience store near the corner of Airline and Babin Road caught what witnesses believe is the small truck being thrown through the air.
Just as fire fighters were responding to that call, more surveillance cameras caught the damage at the 7th District Fire Department.
"I turned that scene over to another fireman," said Lloyd Solar, Assistant 7th District Fire Chief, "I come over here to check on my building, when I turned onto Highway 44 off Black Bayou it looked like a bomb went off."
The twister damaged several fire engines, including one tanker truck that now has a small leak, but fire fighters say it won't stop them from doing their job.
"I can assure the community that it's not enough damage to stop us from running calls, we will be there for every call for the community," said Solar.
The fire department will be manned 24/7 until the damage is repaired.
