Wild police chase in Port Allen ends in arrest
PORT ALLEN - A high-speed chase in Port Allen this afternoon involved two stolen cars, a car crash, a foot pursuit and ended with an alleged car burglar in handcuffs, according to Louisiana State Police.
Louisiana State Police Trooper Russell Graham confirms to News 2 that a man accused of stealing a BMW led troopers on a chase through Port Allen around lunchtime today. The car company actually contacted Louisiana State Police to alert them of the stolen BMW.
He was identified as 32-year-old Wesley Saunders of Austin, Texas.
During the chase, which exceeded speeds of 80 mph, Saunders crashed the BMW and jumped out of the car only to allegedly steal a truck.
The suspect then crashed that truck into some bushes, got out and led troopers on a footchase which ended quickly in arrest.
Witnesses described the terrifying scene.
"I was driving along and out of no where the guy smashed into the back of the truck," Daniel Phelps said. "I was towing and the next thing I saw the vehicle was on its side and sliding on the roof."
The suspect was injured and was transported to a local hospital.
