White meeting with EBRP School Board

BATON ROUGE- The acting Louisiana Superintendent says she is stepping down next month.

Ollie Tyler made the announcement during a Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education meeting.  Tyler took over when Paul Pastorek quit earlier this year.

Tyler says she will continue her forty year career in education, but she is not sure of the role.  Her accomplishments include being as the first woman and first African-American to serve as superintendent in Caddo Parish.

Tyler's decision opens the door for John White, whom most political insiders expect will take over as Superintendent.  White spent the day meeting with Baton Rouge area leaders before a special meeting with the East Baton Rouge Parish school board this evening.

Governor Bobby Jindal got involved with several BESE elections across the state.  Jindal has also backed White for the post.  White is currently serving as head of the New Orleans Recovery School District.
