West Feliciana Parish battles icy roads
ST. FRANCISVILLE - Icy roads gave motorists trouble Friday in East and West Feliciana Parishes.
Tommy Boyett with West Feliciana Parish Homeland Security said deputies responded to around a dozen car crashes due to icy roads. Parish workers spread sand and salt over bridges in the parish to fight the icy conditions.
Boyett said the ice has been a headache.
"Just enough to be a nuisance to us really more than anything else. We've seen it a lot worse with the winter weather here in West Feliciana," he said.
Five of the crashes resulted in minor injuries, and one truck even overturned on Scenic Highway near Port Hudson State Historic Site. Boyett said to expect icy conditions to continue through Friday night even though the rain will slow down.
"Even though your windshield wipers are not required, a little common sense is," he said.
Officials expect the John James Audubon Bridge that crosses the Mississippi River to be closed through Saturday.
