BATON ROUGE – Two semis and more than $71,000 in cash donations arrived from Texas Monday morning to help in the on going flood relief effort in South Louisiana.
The trucks were filled with flood relief supplies – including items such as water, cleaning materials, and diapers. The trucks will deliver supplies to locations in East Baton Rouge and Livingston Parish. The Florida Boulevard Baptist Church in Baton Rouge and Christ's Community Church on Juban Road in Denham Springs will help organize the distribution of the two 18-wheelers.
KRGV TV, the ABC affiliate and Manship family-owned television station in Texas' Rio Grande Valley, sponsored the donation drive and helped raise the cash donations. Money was donated by the TV station's employees and members of the Valley community. The Manship family also owns WBRZ TV and WBRZ.com, the ABC affiliate covering Baton Rouge. KRGV TV reporters also assisted WBRZ TV news crews cover the flood disaster as local news crews juggled time working and gutting their own homes.
$71,101 was donated to the American Red Cross of Louisiana.
