WBR Traffic delays emergency services
BRUSLY- Acadian Ambulance Services face daily rush hour traffic delays in West Baton Rouge.
"If you can't get over that Intracoastal bridge before the big pileup then you will just sit there for quite some time, because there's no where for anyone to go to yield to an emergency vehicle and that just causes a problem and I'm not exaggerating when I tell you it can add 30-40 minutes to the transport time of getting to a Baton Rouge hospital," said Justin Cox, with Acadian Ambulance.
Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development says it's working on a few studies including surface street studies and light synchronization to help ease congestion. It's also expanding the Motor Assistance Patrol Program to include the section of LA 1 between 190 and the Intracoastal Waterway Bridge and on LA 415 between US 190 and I-10.
"It makes me nervous not so much for me but there's a lot of teenagers here," explained Marla Tullier, a Brusly parent. "I don't know if they realize how bad it is. We need to have another way over the river."
