PORT ALLEN- Mosquitoes in traps in West Baton Rouge have tested positive for West Nile, the potentially dangerous disease carried by the bugs.

The positive results were found earlier than usual. So, crews have started spraying parts of the parish, first focusing on areas where the bugs were found with the disease. Areas are being sprayed about three times a week.

"To get them this early could be an indicator of a bad year for the virus to come," said George Bragg with the parish's mosquito control.

Bragg pointed out, no one has become sick from the virus this year.

Mosquitoes in Baton Rouge have not tested positive for West Nile.
