WATCH: confusing RxR crossing
BATON ROUGE - Scotlandville residents want changes at a potentially dangerous intersection.
Thursday night, Together Baton Rouge and elected officials met with members of the community to talk about possible solutions to make the Scenic Highway and Scotland Avenue intersection safer. Three roads cross at that intersection. It can be confusing for drivers.
"It needs to be safer," said Scotlandville resident Hermoneze Lang.
Railroad crossing signs and flashing lights alert cars of an approaching train. But, there are no crossing guards.
"I couldn't really distinguish between, I guess the red light and the light that indicates the train is coming," said Lang.
Together Baton Rouge proposed some solutions to add larger warning lights, improved street markings to show a driver where to stop safely, synchronized traffic signals to alert when there's a train coming and crossing guard arms.
Leaders plan to meet with Baton Rouge leaders and DOTD to formulate a plan in the next two weeks.
