ST. FRANCISVILLE - Fire Marshal investigators will meet with an injured girl and her father as the state continues its investigation into the collapse of a piece of an obstacle course.
Saturday, sixteen people were hurt when a wooden structure that was part of the course on the Warrior Dash fell apart. Brant Thompson with the Louisiana Fire Marshal's Office, said a preliminary inquiry points to the collapsed obstacle being poorly constructed.
"Our review of that structure... is that it was likely not constructed consistent with the design plans," Thompson said.
While it's unclear this early if it was just human error or something intentional, Thompson said if the design plans were not followed for a reason other than oversight, charges could be filed against the promoters of the local Warrior Dash.
While there was no regulation requiring a pre-inspection of the twelve structures on the course, West Feliciana Parish officials said the promoters' contract included a clause about meeting codes.
"The contract requires them to follow codes and to build things in safe and sound manner and to cooperate fully so the participants are safe," Parish President Kevin Couhig said.
The Warrior Dash is a national race that has events in various cities across the country.
Injured were taken to area hospitals by either a ground ambulance or helicopter.
