Voucher school preps for increase in students

BATON ROUGE- A Baton Rouge voucher school is racing against time as they prepare for a significant increase in students.

Hosanna Christian Academy is almost doubling its enrollment in voucher students. They'll have more than 500 this year, the largest amount in the parish.

There was doubt earlier in the year whether the program would continue because of money woes and recent court decisions. But at the last minute Governor Jindal found money for the program, sparing it for another year.

Hosanna Christian is reworking classrooms, adding new teachers and moving students around to accommodate for the influx of new students. Administrators said the changes are well worth it.

"We're committed for choice for parents," said Russell Marino, the dean of students. "We believe that they deserve this right to have their children educated in the school they believe is going to do the job for them."

Because of a recent Supreme Court ruling the funding for the program is limited. The school was prepared to accept around 1,000 students, but only accepted around half that number.
