Volunteers to work at the USS KIDD all weekend
BATON ROUGE - About 30 volunteers, including veterans from across the country are giving their time for four days to putting in maintenance work on the USS KIDD.
It's all a part of Fall Field Days that has been happening every year at the Kidd since 1996.
Workers did everything from painting to working on piping on board the ship.
"I'm 79 and I wonder how much longer I'll be able to do this. Hopefully, I'll just keep doing it as long as I can," said Richard Ammon, who served four years on the USS KIDD when he was in the military.
In 2014, workers gave an estimated amount of $45,000 in labor.
The final day for Field Days is Sunday.
