Violent night in Baton Rouge
BATON ROUGE - Law enforcement is investigating three shootings in Baton Rouge overnight Monday, including one involving BRPD officers.
It happened near the intersection of Perkins at Acadian. According to a press release, back-up was called when a driver refused to pull over for an undisclosed traffic violation. That's when police say the car attempted to flee, nearly running over several officers in the process.
Several cops fired multiple shots at the vehicle, hitting both the driver and passenger. Both were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
No officers suffered "significant" injuries. Those that fired shots were placed on paid leave pending the results of an investigation.
Police and sheriff's deputies also responded to two near-simultaneous shootings Monday evening
East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's deputies found a man shot in the Glen Oaks area around 9 p.m. A spokesperson said deputies were responding to reports of shots being fired through the city's ShotSpotter program and discovered the shooting victim.
The victim was found near the intersection of Matthews and Maplewood and was taken to the hospital. They are expected to survive.
As deputies began working their case, police responded to Baton Rouge Mid City where a mother took her child and reported a shooting around the intersection of North 25th and Florida. Police said the child may have been slightly injured by debris from the shooting but is okay.
Crime scene detectives were seen working the roped off area, looking for evidence following the mother's report about gunfire. Outside the emergency room, a WBRZ photographer took video of a car roped off around yellow crime tape, too.
Names of those involved in either shooting have not been released. Both victims are expected to recover. The shootings have not been connected and there are no suspects in either case.
